HER BIOGRAPHY
Kathleen Johnson
GLOBE Mission Earth Research Scientist
Boston University
Wheelock College of Education and Human Development
I am a biologist, I have worked in cancer research, as a veterinary technician, in a lab that investigates the cause of death for animals (mostly livestock like cows, pigs, sheep, and horses), for the Department of Fish and Wildlife, for the Nature Conservancy, for a National Estuary Research Reserve (an estuary is a large area where a stream empties into an ocean or sea), and as a college teacher in 3 different colleges (so far). Right now, I work for NASA GLOBE Mission Earth sharing already-made hands-on science activities, creating new science activities for K-12 classrooms, and visiting classrooms to do those activities. I grew up in a very small town and, as an adult, have lived in Seattle, WA, Bellingham, WA, and Boston, MA. I love to learn which is why I love science so much - there is always something new to wonder about and explore. I would love to share why I decided to become a scientist, why I love to teach science, and, if you and your students would like, I can share about some of the challenges I faced as a woman in science. This session is about what you all want to know, so ask me anything about science (you don't have to limit it to biology), being a scientist, or my journey to get to where I am!
In honor of finishing our novel,
Grade 5 will be screening the movie
